Irish president opens new resource centre in Castlederg

IRISH president, Mary McAleese, was due to arrive in Castlederg yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) to officially open Churchtown Community Association's new resource centre.
Her visit comes as part of a tour of the Strabane district where she was due to meet with a number of economic leaders in the area, as well as local politicians and community representatives. Entitled the Ard Múr Centre, the new facility at Lurganbuoy Road, in Castlederg, will provide a number of childcare resources, including baby and toddler rooms, as well as an out-of-school facility to families living in the area.
During the opening ceremony, Mrs McAleese was to meet with representatives of various funding agencies, including Strabane District Council and the Special EU Programmes Body, as well as the chairperson and director members of Churchtown Community Association and invited guests.
Prior to her visit at the new centre, Mrs McAleese, was also due to stop off at Killeter, to officially open a community recording studio, established through Killeter and District Development Trust.
Earlier in the day, the Irish president was to visit a number of representatives of groups in Strabane town including, Strabane 2000, Strabane Community Project and Strabane Chamber of Commerce, before making her way to visit staff and pupils of the local Gaelscoil in the town.
