Sick Billy in induced coma thumbnailBilly Caldwell, from Castlederg, who is in a 'critical condition' after suffering life-threatening seizures.

THE 'heartbroken' mother of young Billy Caldwell is pleading for the prayers of the public this week after the 11-year-old was placed into an induced coma following a series of severe seizures.

Billy suffered the 'devastating setback' on Saturday and was admitted to the Children's Hospital in Los Angeles where yesterday (Tuesday) he was described as being in a critical condition.

The young Castlederg boy has been sedated by doctors in an attempt to break the cycle of extreme life-threatening seizures.

Speaking from Billy's hospital bedside, his devastated mum, Charlotte, said that he was in a 'crisis situation' and asked for everyone to keep him in their thoughts and prayers.

She said: "Eyes filled with tears I am sitting beside Billy's hospital bed writing this completely heartbroken. I'm finding it difficult to find the words as this is incomprehensible.

"The reality is I am hurting so very badly now and trying to find the words to pray. One moment I'm just sitting in silence hoping God hears my heartbreak and in the next moment tears just keep coming.

"Billy is undoubtedly in a crisis situation. My heart is breaking for Billy. The weight of this situation is so heavy I am finding it difficult to breathe. My words choke out, sometimes I can't speak at all.

"Speaking thoughts just seem to require energy that I just haven't got right now. So I sit in silence, hoping God hears my heartbreak.

"My strength is leaving me, I am so very anxious. This situation doesn't make sense. Billy is so innocent and vulnerable. I don't understand why this is happening?"

Continuing to pray she said: "God help me to trust you with Billy's life, with every aspect of this situation. Help me to trust you with all my heart.

"Give me the strength because I am flat out weary. Help me run this gruelling race with perseverance and never give up.

"God I love and adore Billy. Thank you for entrusting him into my care. It's such a privilege being his mummy.

"Please bring healing to him and make him well. Protect Billy emotionally and spiritually. Give him the strength for each test, each medicine. Please take him in your arms and comfort him through this. Please let me keep him a wee while longer Lord, please, please don't take him yet," plead the emotional mother.

"Please folks pray for Billy and light candles. He needs all the help he can get right now."

Billy and his mum have been in America for a number of months where the Castlederg boy is receiving treatment for his severe epilepsy.

He is due to undergo brain surgery which may see him lose an entire lobe of his brain sacrificing his memory and ability to speak.

Thus far, doctors have been treating Billy with cannabis oil (CBD) - to which Billy has been responding positively to - in an attempt to reduce the frequency of his seizures and to shrink the size of the lesion on his brain in the hope that just the lesion will be removed.
