STRULE United booked their place in the last four of the Mulhern Cup with a 3-0 win over Fintona Swifts on a scorching Saturday afternoon at Ecclesville.

While Strule currently lie at the bottom of the Division One table, they left that league form behind them as they overcame the Swifts thanks to a Daniel Parkinson hat-trick to progress to a semi-final showdown with Beragh Swifts at Ferney Park in a fortnight.
While the score-line would suggest a walk in the park for Strule, in reality Fintona, chasing promotion from Division Three, fought well for most of the game, but couldn't trouble the Strule defence. The visitors though had Parkinson on fine form, whose accuracy in front of goal was the telling factor.
Strule began the game well and applied pressure from the first whistle, with Swifts keeper Barry Cunningham proving equal to the visitors' early efforts, making a number of fine saves from Patrick Doherty and Ryan Pritchard.Parkinson would eventually beat him on the half hour mark with a crisp volley that nestled into the corner of the net.
Swifts responded with an attack that almost brought them level, but Niall McCrory reacted well to block out Kris Hamilton. Ronan Taggart then had a free kick for Strule tipped away by Cunningham as they went in at the break 1-0 to the good.
Into the second half and both teams were beginning to feel the heat as fatigue set in. It was Strule though who were looking more likely to get the game's next goal as they strived to put the result to bed. They had to wait until the 83rd minute for Parkinson to double their lead when he latched onto a long ball and clipped it over Cunningham into the net.
Minutes later he sealed his treble after converting from a Pritchard cross as the game came to a close.
