Dromore group to document heritage of each townland in district

Thursday, 13 April 2017

DROMORE 2000 has held the successful launch of its heritage project. This project will see members of the community work with Dromore 2000 to document the heritage of each townland - of which there are 59.

"Features such as ring forts, old schools/churches, fields/place names are all parts of our history that we don't want to lose," said Raymond Goodwin, who has been the driving force behind the project.

"We want to record as much detail as possible about each townland, and preserve this for future generations to come."

The large attendance at the launch illustrated the interest in such a project within Dromore and encourages all involved to move forward with ambition on a project never before undertaken on this scale.

"If you have an interest in the history/heritage of Dromore and have a strong connection with 'your place' it is not too late to get involved or just come along and listen. In the coming weeks we will be meeting in smaller groups and extend a warm welcome to everyone," said a spokesperson.
