Thursday, 18 May 2017

ON Thursday night Omagh Ladies travelled to Dungannon, where they played local rivals Cookstown in a playoff bid for promotion.

As this was Omagh's fourth consecutive playoff, the young side were keen to grab an early goal and secure the win. A super reverse strike from young starlet Jessica Hood in the twentieth minute allowed Omagh to do just that, setting the score at 1-0. Despite constant pressure from Omagh, they were unable to extend their lead before the break.

The second half saw a more disciplined Cookstown side create a number of chances outside the Omagh circle, winning several short corners in the latter half of the game. Despite a controversial green card being awarded to fullback Emma Fulton, Omagh withstood much of the pressure breaking into their circle.

A fantastic dual performance from Lyndsey McCay and Jennifer Elkin in central defence allowed the girls to run down the clock until the full-time whistle. Despite some excellent individual performances, this was no doubt the best team performance Omagh have put in all year.

Omagh would like to thank the fantastic support that travelled to Dungannon and witnessed their promotion to Senior One. The girls would also like to extend their thanks to coach Scott Brier for his continued hard work all year and to Derek Graham for umpiring throughout the season.

Team: Alison Long, Emma Fulton, Lyndsey McCay, Jennifer Elkin, Sarah Graham, Holly Swann, Heather Moffitt, Neave Nethery, Lisa Pinkerton, Lauren McCollum (captain), Aimee Nethery, Jessica Hood, Jodie Hood, Danielle Darragh, Luci McKeown, Anne Young.
