CASTLEDERG teenager Sommer Lecky was back in record-breaking form again at the Irish Schools Championships in Tullamore on Saturday.

The Strabane Academy pupil broke the long-standing senior girls' high jump record with 1.81m, eclipsing the 1985 mark by Ursula Fay.

Lecky also won silver in the senior girls' long jump, leaping a distance of 5.62m.

The latest record jump comes just weeks after she bettered Fay's 34-year-old Northern Ireland junior record by one centimetre at the Ulster Schools Athletics Championships at Antrim, equalling the Irish junior high jump record of 1.85m.

The 16-year-old athlete has also recently equalled Deirdre Ryan's Irish U20 record set in 2001.

Sacred Heart College's sporting success continued as Omagh girl Toni Moore came home winner of the senior 1500m steeplechase, with team mate Morgan Owens coming in fifth place.

Toni also finished sixth in the 1500m race later in the afternoon to round off a sterling schools athletics career before she moves to Colorado this summer to take up an American college track and field scholarship. In the intermediate 1500m steeplechase, Sacred Heart's Jack Moore, brother of Toni, managed a credible fifth place finish with a time of 4.54.

Elsewhere, in the girls intermediate 1500m steeplechase, Loreto Grammar's Enya Haigney ran a time of 5.30 to secure a bronze medal.

Omagh Academy's Adam Giles finished eighth in the boys intermediate shot putt, while Sean Corry secured a sixth place finish for Omagh CBS in the boys intermediate 800m, before crossing the line in ninth in the 1500m distance.
