WORK has just started on the new 5 million seven-screen cinema and restaurant complex at Kevlin Road, Omagh. It will employ up to 65 people on a full and part-time basis.

Paul Anderson, Omniplex Cinema Group operations director, said they moved on site recently with a view to opening in mid-December.

"There's a skeleton staff on site at the moment. Mascott, the main contractors, will be using a lot of local sub-contractors, with a lot of the work.

"We are proposing to bring a totally new build concept which will be the first of its kind in Ireland with state-of-the-art digital projection technology, an 18.5m by 10m high Omniplex Maxx screen and international standard interior fit-out. There will be six other screens and all will have the leather rocking chairs, which are standard at Omniplex sites now.

"This will be a family-orientated complex with restaurant and coffee shop facilities on a par with our very successful operations. We have 26 sites around the country, 14 in Northern Ireland and 12 in southern Ireland and we're looking forward to the opening.

"This will be a tremendous asset to Omagh which will not only provide a fabulous facility for local people, but will also be an added attraction to tourists and visitors," he said.
