Omagh woman to complete 20 5k runs in as many days to help homeless animals thumbnailLynda Hill and Shannon Daly are lacing up their running shoes for the 20-day 5k challenge in order to raise money for International Homeless Animals Day. AN3058

TAKING on a single 5k run can be a challenging experience, but one Omagh woman has set herself a remarkable target of completing 20 in as many days - and all for a good cause.
Animal lover, Lynda Hill, of Canine Care, based at Omagh's Gortrush Industrial Estate, has visited Serbia four times in just over 18 months to take care of 'desperate street dogs', but her latest adventure will take course much closer to home. From Monday, Lynda will complete a 5k challenge every day until August 19 to raise money for International Homeless Animals Day.
"On the days leading up to International Homeless Animals Day, I am hoping to do a 20 day 5k challenge to help," she explained. "This means I must walk, run or cycle five kilometres every day from July 31 to August 19, allowing me to have completed 100km by International Homeless Animals Day.
"All across the world August 19 will be recognised as International Homeless Animals Day. This is a day for people to unite in order to eliminate as much as possible the dreadful suffering of homeless animals all over the world. It would be wonderful to help every single animal, however, unfortunately that would be just impossible as there is an estimated 600 million homeless animals in the world.
As sad as that is, and impossible as it is to save them all, the wonderful thing is we can all do something to help at least some of them."
Lynda is appealing to animal lovers in the community to join her in signing up to the 20-day 5k challenge to help some of the 600 million homeless animals in the world.
"It is my aim individually to get every kilometre sponsored by at least 1, resulting in me raising at least 100 for the animals. Doing it individually, I can make a small difference but doing it with help I can achieve so much more. Each person can do their 5km each day at their own pace, in their place and in their own way. My aim is to get 20 people in total to do the challenge, meaning together we will aim to cover 2,000km and, more importantly, raise an amazing 2,000 for the animals.
"This money will be added to the Animal Support Trust Neutering Fund to be used to carry out vital neutering of animals both here and in Serbia. It is such a shocking fact that there are 600 million homeless animals in the world. Sadly without neutering, every day of every year that number will continue to rise.
