'Disbelief' turned to joy as twins celebrate magnificent results!

Thursday, 24 August 2017

EIGHTEEN-year-old twins, JoAnn and Rachel Sproule, from Drumlegagh, had double cause for celebration last week when their A-level results were delivered - they both reached the high targets they set for themselves.

JoAnn achieved two As and a B, while Rachel an A*, an A and a B.

The girls received their early education at Drumlegagh Primary School before moving to Omagh Academy and throughout their academic journey have been bonded by their desire to do the best they could.

Indeed Rachel said they initially greeted their good news with 'disbelief', but this quickly turned to joy as they came to terms with their success. But as she pointed out, it was all down to hard work!

"JoAnn wold study morning, noon and night and I would be doing my coursework 24-7 and I also had to fit in revision as well. It was a big commitment, but definitely worth it at the end - worth all the effort, stress and worry."

She explained that her sister had her heart set on going to Edinburgh University to study theology.

"She really wanted to get the grades for it because you needed an A and two Bs, so she was just delighted with what she got."

Meanwhile, Rachel is going to Ulster University to study art and design.

"I love the creative subjects so we both wanted to make sure that whatever we decided to do it would be something we would enjoy doing into the future."

And had she any advice for younger pupils looking at these results?

"Yes, I would say start start revising and start working early. If you are doing a coursework subject it's worth commiting that time to it - it's all worth it in the end! There's nothing more satisfying than working really hard for something and getting the result you hoped for and more!"

Rachel added she would like to end up teaching, while JoAnn was considering ministry work. She added they also wished to thank all their teachers at the Academy and their parents, mother Ann, father, John, as well as grandparents Margaret and John McDermott.

The sisters are occupying themselves with part-time jobs before heading off - JoAnn is working in McDonald's in Omagh, while Rachel divides her time between working as a church organist and babysitting. Industrious young ladies indeed!
