Vandals destroy electricity poles at Gortin Glen Forest Park

An electricity pole, one of two cut down in Gortin Glen Forest Park by vandals who stole valuable copper cable.
NORTHERN Ireland Electricity Networks (NIE Networks) and the PSNI have condemned vandals who cut down two electricity poles in a wooded area at Gortin Glen Forest Park over the weekend.
It is believed that as well as the two poles a quantity of copper wiring was taken sometime between Sunday and Monday morning.
Helena McElrath, NIE Networks customer relations manager for the area says the vandals are lucky to be alive. "Any vandalism to the electricity network is unacceptable.
These actions are irresponsible, placing the perpetrators at risk of injury, or even death," she said.
"In addition, NIE Networks had to divert valuable time and resources to rectifying the damage. I would appeal to the community to report anyone found wilfully damaging our equipment.
I cannot stress enough the danger the vandals place themselves and innocent members of the public in when they tamper with live electricity equipment."
