Gold medal success for Strule Dolphins in Limerick

FOUR of Strule Dolphins talented young swimming team qualified for the Division 2 Irish Age Groups Championship held in Limerick the at start of July.
Anna McGlinchey, Tiernan McClean, Alex McGlinchey and Fiachra Donnelly all managed to achieve the rigorous qualifying standards for this prestigious competitive meet and were keen to impress on the big Irish stage.
Fiachra in the 100m backstroke and 100m breaststroke swam superbly amidst stiff competition and the gifted Beragh swimmer can be pleased with his performance and times on the day.
Alex also swam an outstanding PB time in 100m front crawl swimming against much older 16, 17, and 18 year old boys.
In the shorter 50m front-crawl he demonstrated great technique in swimming another season best time and can be extremely happy with his weekends` endeavors.
Tiernan McClean came into the competition in a rich vein of form and this augured well for his 50m front-crawl which he nailed in a blitzing time of 28.3 seconds. Another lifetime best for the skillful Omagh swimmer and a great result.
However it was the accomplished Anna McGlinchey who stole the show with some incredible swims.
In the 50m front-crawl, Anna was sharp off the blocks and dominated the race to touch in first place and won the coveted gold medal amidst quality opposition.
More was to follow when in the 100m butterfly the flying dolphin led for much of the race amazing result against much older age-group oppositionand narrowly missed the final touch to be edged into seond place and another deserved silver medal.
In the 100m backstroke she just narrowly missed out on a podium place and can also be delighted as qualifying reserve for 200IM finals - in an amazing time of 28.35.
All the swimmers would like to thank their club coaches for investing so much time and effort throughout the season. The dedication and many hours of pool time have certainly paid off.
Everyone can be very proud of their efforts and it is encouraging to see the Strule Dolphins Club being regularly recognised and rewarded now in Irish swimming circles.
