New charges on way if car parking strategy proposals ratified by council

Thursday, 12 July 2018

New recommendations aimed at transforming the face of parking in Omagh appear likely to mean a price hike.
It is expected changes will receive the green light when they come before a full meeting of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council due to be held in just over two weeks' time.
A five-year off-street car parking strategy was developed by professional advisers, AECOM, on behalf of the council to address the overall requirement for off-street car parking within the district.
The council claim this strategy was developed following an extensive review of existing car parking practices and demand throughout the district and also involved consultation with members of the public and key stakeholders.
Councillors debated the matter at their environmental services committee last Wednesday where details of the new proposals were revealed. The recommendations agreed are subject to ratification at the meeting of the council on Thursday fortnight, July 26.
