Carrickmore man reveals family connection with  Nirvana music legend Kurt Cobain thumbnail

FOR many years it has been rumoured that the late Kurt Cobain - the frontman of Nirvana and one of the most famous musicians in history - may have links to Carrickmore.
The mountainous, quiet and peaceful setting of the Tyrone town is a world away from the rock-star life Kurt would have lived, after propelling Nirvana to international stardom.
It is therefore barely believable this rural and sleepy town could have links to an American singer and songwriter who has gone down in history as one of the most iconic musicians to have ever lived.
And yet, going by research and information handed down through the years, it seems this is the part of the world where his ancestors were once based.
Speaking to the Tyrone Constitution from his home in the townload of Inishatieve - just outside Carrickmore - Pat Kelly, 78, a distant relative to Kurt Cobain, was able to explain the fascinating connection between the families.
