Incinerator plan hitch

Thursday, 2 August 2018

A PAPERWORK hitch has halted plans to develop an animal incinerator in the Tattyreagh area outside Omagh - for the present time at least.
Over the past few weeks a large number of objections had been lodged against the proposed development and yesterday (Tuesday) news came through that the planning application for it was deemed invalid and had been returned to the applicant, Erne Gas Services Ltd.
Opponents made their objections known over the past few weeks through contact with the council's planning office and representations at all political levels. This followed a community-led campaign which started at a public meeting.
At it locals and the wider community expressed concerns that such a development might affect them by having an impact on local roads, devalue house and land prices, create noise pollution, endanger health by creating toxins in the atmosphere and generally have an adverse effect on the well being of the local community.
The promoters of the new venture said their equipment had been designed to meet all environmental regulations.
In a statement on Tuesday of last week organising members of the Tattyreagh Incinerator Group, who vehemently oppose the incinerator, said it wished to voice its huge appreciation to the large number of people who lodged objections against this proposal.
