Omagh pair honoured for World Cup heroics thumbnailOmagh’s Frances Campbell, is pictured receiving a Citizen watch from Alan Ferris, of McNeilly’s Jewellers, Northern Ireland coach, Elaine Rice, left, and Netball NI president, Lorraine Lindsay, in recognition of her performances at the Netball World Cup.

THE year 2011 was a memorable one for Omagh women, Micaela Brunton and Frances Campbell, and their Northern Ireland netball team, who reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup for the first time ever, in Singapore in July.
The girls in green had agonisingly missed out on second place in April's European Championships at the Antrim Forum, but came close to a top six finish at the World Cup - going down 46-41 to South Africa after a titanic tussle. At an end-of-year dinner to celebrate the team's achievements in 2011, Campbell received a Citizen watch from Alan Ferris, representative of McNeilly's Jewellers. Also in attendance were Northern Ireland coach, Elaine Rice, and Netball NI president, Lorraine Lindsay.
Brunton, recently married to Derry gaelic footballer Joe Diver, remains a key figure for Northern Ireland and the improving Campbell got more game-time for the national team in 2011 than previously.
