Fivemiletown seconds narrowly lose out to league leaders

Thursday, 26 January 2012

Lisnarick 2. Fivemiletown Utd II 1.

THE division three match between table-toppers, Lisnarick, and Fivemiletown United was the proverbial game of two halves, before the league leaders emerged as 2-1 victors.
Lisnarick held the upper hand in the opening half with the seconds being reduced for the most part to scattered raids on the home goal.
Lisnarick opened the scoring after 32 minutes when a Warren Holden free-kick, awarded for handball on the edge of the box, left Cameron Crawford with no chance and just before the break the homesters doubled their lead - a midfielder passing into space on the Town right, the ball was picked up and crossed low for a waiting striker to convert.
With slight changes at the break the Town, with the wind on their backs this time, turned the tables in terms of possession, pressing Lisnarick back into their own half for long periods.
Shane Murphy narrowed the deficit with four minutes remaining after a sweet left foot strike, but the goal came too late.
Fivemiletown United's man of the match was Cameron Crawford.
This coming Saturday, Fivemiletown United's first team host Markethill Swifts, the seconds travel to Augher Stars, the thirds are at home to Shelbourne Reserves and the U11s play Coleraine.
Tickets are now available for the 'Valentines Take me Out' fundraiser to be held in the Valley Hotel on Saturday, February 11, and can be purchased from any Fivemiletown United committee member.
Training for the U13 team continues on Thursday nights from 6.45pm at Fivemiletown College. Training for the U14 team commences at 7.45pm at the same venue. Senior training continues on Thursday nights at the College at 7.45pm.
