OMAGH Hockey Club men's heavily depleted first team suffered a disappointing 4-0 home defeat to Senior Two league leaders, Ballynahinch, on Saturday.
The visitors goals came from Davy Bolton, Andrew Mulholland and an Andrew McIlwaine brace. McIlwaine's double means he has now scored in every one of 'Hinch's 10 league games this season.
‘Hinch started the game on the front foot as expected but resilient defending from the home side frustrated the visitors with Jake Martin, Damian Maguire, the evergreen Jimmy McCutcheon and Midge Young all excelling at the back.
A great counter attack midway through the first half saw Geoff Sproule and M Campbell create a chance for Mark Bates whose effort went just wide of the post.
‘Hinch scored two goals late in the first half from short corners, before adding to their lead 10 minutes into the second half and a fourth midway through the half - again, both goals came from short corners.
Omagh continued to play well and attacked more frequently causing the away defence plenty of problems. Mark Bates was deliberately fouled when the last man through on goal and 'Hinch had a man sent off.
Omagh continued to push and the visiting keeper made a great save from Chris Martin after he beat two defenders after quick thinking and a pass from M Maguire.
All in all a very good performance from Omagh, great commitment and plenty of good hockey. The club would like to extend get well wishes to Derek Graham and wish him a speedy recovery.
