Masterclasses ahead locally for sports coaches thumbnailLaunching the Omagh Dictrict Council Coaching Master Classes are Frankie Donnelly, council chairman, Michael Cooke, Sport NI and Conor McCrory, council sports development and recreation officer

THE education and development of sports coaches will be the focus throughout the north west during February 2012. The North West Coaching Weeks (February 6 to 29) Programme features a range of workshops, courses and masterclasses, all designed to provide sports coaches with up to date knowledge and skills.
The initiative originated from the North West Coaching Network and is funded by Sport Northern Ireland's Awards for Sport programme. The North West Coaching Network is made up from local authority sports development teams, local sports partnerships and regionally based governing bodies of sport.
These partners aim to raise the standard of coaching within their own areas/sports and collaboratively across the region.
The educational sessions span across a number of themes and topics related to coaching. There are many high quality coaches and facilitators, who will provide practical and informative coach education programmes.
Michael Cooke, coaching and club development consultant for the north west, is extremely pleased with the programme. He said: "The North West Coaching Network has always strived to ensure that excellent opportunities are available for coaches across the region.
“The partners within the Network have been working towards raising the profile of coaching and hopefully the NW Coaching Weeks will help to achieve this."
Frankie Donnelly, chairman of Omagh District Council, highlighted the anticipated level of demand for places, saying: "This is a great opportunity for local coaches and sports leaders to avail of quality courses within the Omagh district, and I would encourage clubs, coaches and leaders book their places before the closing dates to avoid disappointment."
Conor McCrory, sports development and recreation officer for Omagh District Council, said: "The master class tutors have a vast amount of experience at international and national level. I would strongly advise all local players, teachers and coaches to make the most of this fantastic opportunity to learn from the experts."
Full details on all the master classes and courses and application forms can be downloaded from www.omaghsport.com or obtained from Omagh Leisure Complex and the Public Services Centre, Omagh.
