Both teams put in committed performances that made for a feisty match at times, and Rovers player-manager Gerard McCaskie was happy to see his side's fight rewarded with three points.

“It was a good battle. It was a tight game but I think we had the better chances. it was a real 'ding-dong' and it was nice to come out on the other side of it."

Rovers started the better, and took the lead after the first quarter of an hour. Gerard McCaskie hit the base of the post, and the rebound found Mick McMenamin who tapped home for the opener.

Hospitals respond though before half-time with a free kick from Mickey Coyle.

After half-time the Hossies moved into the lead with Ryan McCartan and Barry Howe linking up to set up Mick McCullagh for the goal.

On 70 minutes, Ruairi Meyler levelled the game again when he rounded keeper Tiernan McNamee for an easy finish, and Rovers went on to have the final say when Mark McCaskie's strike came off the wood work, and Caolan O'Donnell was on hand to head home with about ten minutes to go.

“At the end they were pushing and maybe could have snatched a draw, but overall, I think we just about shaded it," said McCaskie.

“We have two more games, both against St. Pats, so we are are looking at six more points to close out the season.

“We are away to Beragh this weekend in the cup, and it will be a challenge. It's the cup though so you never know what will happen. We'll not lie down, that is for sure."
