Tyrone Open Championships begin in perfect weather

Thursday, 20 July 2017

PERFECT weather greeted the start of the Tyrone Senior Open Championships, which got underway on Sunday at Omagh Lawn Tennis Club.

The tournament will run all throughout the week, with the semi-finals taking place on Saturday and the finals on Sunday.

Tournament organiser Mark Smyth is hoping for the fine weather to continue at the Campsie courts. The Omagh club coach is also competing in the men's 'A' singles competition, where he is the second seed.

"The weather is brilliant and it's a pleasure playing in the sunshine. I haven't won this competition before so I'm really looking forward to getting into the action."

Other local players taking part in this year's competition is Donna McSorley, playing in the ladies 'A' singles, and Mary Cuthbertson in the 'B' ladies singles category.

In the 'C' ladies singles, Anne-Louise Hicks is the number one seed, and she will be hoping to build on her appearance in the final of the Fermanagh Senior Open in Irvinestown a fortnight ago.
