A 15-year-old girl is recovering this week following a traumatic ordeal in the centre of Omagh during which the teenager had a lit cigarette pushed into her face in what one local councillor has described as a ‘barbaric attack’
Details of the assault were only revealed by the police yesterday (Tuesday), with Constable Ryan McCullagh pointing out they received a report of the incident on Tuesday, September 11.
"It was reported that between 1.30pm and 2pm on Saturday, September 8, a 15-year-old female was assaulted in the Oasis Plaza area in the vicinity of the bus depot, by having a lit cigarette pushed into her face."
He added the suspect was described as a black male in his early teens, approximately 5'6", of slim build and was reported to be wearing a white hoodie.
"I am appealing to anyone who was in the area and saw what happened, or anyone who has information which may assist our investigation to ring police in Omagh on the non-emergency number 101 quoting reference number 748 or 11/09/18.
