Redevelopment works costing £1m at the Gortin Glens Forest Park is expected to begin soon and it is anticipated project works will be completed by this summer, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has confirmed.
According to the council, the redevelopment works contract has been awarded with onsite project works expected to begin within a matter of weeks.
“Site preparation works are currently underway which have included the felling of eight trees, undertaken in accordance with planning approval, to make way for the new Destination Play Facility.
“The redevelopment will include the play facility and 14km Mountain Bike Trail network, refurbishment of walking trails, the installation of trim trail outdoor activity equipment and an upgrade to parking facilities.”
The council and the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA), have each committed £500,000 to the redevelopment works.
The council has subsequently entered into a 20-year lease with the Northern Ireland Forest Service in order to progress the development plan.
