A DRIVER turned their lights off an effort to evade police before causing extensive damage to their car, police have revealed.

According to local officers, on Saturday night they attempted to stop the uninsured driver of a Black Lexus car in Omagh.

However, the driver made off from police, turning their lights off in an attempt to make off, before causing damage to their front and rear bumper.

Recounting the incident, a PSNI spokesperson said: "The District Support Team stopped the vehicle in the Omagh area on Saturday night.

"Not only was the driver silly enough to drive with no insurance, they also turned their lights off and attempted to make off from police, endangering other road users.

"In the process they managed to damage their own vehicle, ripping off their front and back bumper in their attempts to get away!

"Needless to say, our officers outsmarted the driver who had their vehicle seized, six penalty points and at least £350 out of pocket."
