ARMED robbers wearing boiler suits and masks have made off with a 'significant sum of cash' from a security van at a filling station in Aughnacloy this morning (Wednesday).

The group, armed with suspected firearms, threatened security staff who were at a cash machine at the filling station in Caledon Road about 6.40am.

The men ordered them to go into the cash machine bunker while they removed money in boxes from the van.

Police said the men made off in a dark-coloured vehicle with a significant sum of money and no-one was hurt.

Ulster Unionist MLA., Diana Armstrong described the incident as 'brazen and deeply disturbing'.

“This was a brazen and deeply disturbing attack on those simply going about their daily job. It’s very shocking to hear of the use of firearms and threats to life in the quiet community of Aughnacloy. It is a relief to hear that no one was harmed or injured. I urge anyone with information to come forward to the PSNI immediately," she said.

"My office is liaising with the PSNI team in South Tyrone.”

Sinn Féin MLA., Colm Gildernew, also condemned the "disgraceful incident".

"My thoughts are with the workers caught up in it, who will no doubt be left frightened," he said.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
