WEST Tyrone MLA., Declan McAleer and Cllr Ruaídhrí Lyttle, have welcomed confirmation that the play park in Gortin will be relocated and upgraded as part of a £1 million investment programme by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council.
The council has issued a tender for the construction of two new play parks and the upgrading of three existing facilities across the district. The work, valued at just over £1 million, is scheduled to take place between December 2025 and June 2026.
Welcoming the news, MLA McAleer said the investment is a significant boost for the local community.
''This is a very positive development for Gortin and the surrounding area. This much-needed upgrade will be a welcome boost for the local community. Families and young people will soon benefit from a modern, safe, and inclusive play space that will serve the area for many years to come. Investment in facilities like this plays an important role in strengthening our rural communities.”
Cllr Lyttle added: “I commend the council for prioritising this work and look forward to seeing progress as the project moves forward. This investment demonstrates a strong commitment to supporting families, promoting health and wellbeing, and ensuring children in rural areas have access to high-quality facilities. Sinn Féin will continue to lobby on and advocate for these projects within the council.”
