THE Western Health and Social Care Trust (Western Trust) has gratefully acknowledged a very generous donation of £25,000 to Lime and Elm Inpatient Wards, Tyrone and Fermanagh Hospital, in memory of Kevin Loughrey, who sadly passed away last year.

Lime Ward Manager Dean Pollock said: “We are incredibly humbled and privileged that the Loughrey family chose to fundraise to help support the creation of a Sensory Room, which will greatly assist patients and our staff who provide treatment and care of patients with a range of complex and enduring mental health issues and provide a safe environment to help with their recovery. A group of healthcare professionals undertook the Omagh Half Marathon and 5K race earlier this year to support the fundraising efforts. The professionals who laced up their trainers represented Social Work, Pharmacy, Occupational Health and Nursing, all of whom had direct input into Kevin’s care in Lime Ward.”

Conor Loughrey said: “We organized a number of fundraising events over the past year to help us with our goal to create a Sensory Room in memory of Kevin in Lime Villa. A huge thank you to all of our family, friends, local businesses and the wider community who have generously supported us in our fundraising efforts. We have been overwhelmed by everyone’s kindness and generosity and this has helped us immensely as we continue to remember Kevin and his many special gifts and talents.

Conor added: “Thank you to Michael, Dean and the staff in Lime and Elm Wards for supporting our vision. We look forward to seeing progress in the building of this special room designed to develop a person’s sense usually through special lighting, music and object and provide a safe and comfortable environment for individuals who experience sensory processing difficulties.”
