THE Clogher Valley community is mourning the death of former DUP councillor Wills Robinson, who passed away on Christmas Day following many years of dedicated public service.
Mr Robinson, a well-known and respected local figure, represented the Clogher Valley area on council for a number of years after being first elected in 2011. During his time in office, he was widely regarded for his practical, community-focused approach and his commitment to addressing the needs of rural residents.
Tributes have been paid from across the political and wider community, highlighting his quiet dedication and personal integrity.
DUP MLA Deborah Erskine said she was saddened to learn of his passing, describing Mr Robinson as a “true gentleman” who always put others first.
“Wills served the people of the Clogher Valley with dedication and humility,” she said. “He was a loyal DUP stalwart who worked tirelessly for his community and never sought recognition for what he did, even though his efforts were appreciated by many.”
Mrs Erskine also reflected on the importance of Mr Robinson’s Christian faith, which she said shaped both his life and his approach to public service.
“Above all else, Wills was guided by his strong Christian faith,” she added. “He quietly offered advice, guidance and encouragement to many. I will always be grateful for the support and encouragement he gave me, particularly when I became an MLA.”
She concluded her tribute with a passage from Matthew 25:23: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Mid Ulster District Council DUP group chairperson, Councillor Frances Burton, also expressed her condolences.
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Wills, a wonderful council colleague and friend,” she said.
Mr Robinson stepped down from his council role in late 2022 after many years of service. He was succeeded by his son, Mark Robinson, who was co-opted to represent the area.
Outside of politics, Mr Robinson was a devoted family man. He was the beloved husband of the late Lucinda Robinson and the devoted husband of Frances. He is survived by his wife Frances, his children Raymond, David, Mark, Neville, Beulah, Naomi, Andrew and John, their partners, as well as a large extended family including grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A service of thanksgiving for his life took place on Saturday, December 27, at Clogher Valley Free Presbyterian Church, followed by a private burial in the adjoining churchyard. A service was also held earlier at the family home.
In accordance with the family’s wishes, family flowers only were requested. Donations in lieu may be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship and the Free Presbyterian Missionary Council, payable to F. Martin & Sons Funeral Directors, Dungannon.
