Omagh mourns the death of Fr Eugene Hasson, pastor, peacemaker and friend

OMAGH and the wider Derry Diocese have been united in grief following the death of Fr Eugene Hasson PP, whose Requiem Mass was celebrated today (Friday) in the Sacred Heart Church, Omagh.

The town came to a standstill as parishioners, clergy and representatives from all sectors of the community gathered to honour a priest whose life and ministry were woven into the story of Tyrone for more than four decades.

An outpouring of sympathy has been expressed across denominations since news of his passing was announced on Monday night.

The Requiem Mass was celebrated by the Bishop of Derry, Rt Rev Donal McKeown, and concelebrated by more than 30 priests from across the diocese and beyond.

The church was filled to capacity, with many more standing outside in silent respect.
