Omagh Rexy Jacks closes amid financial pressure on diner group

A POPULAR American-style diner in Omagh has closed its doors, becoming the latest casualty of mounting financial pressures facing the hospitality sector.

Rexy Jacks, located at the Omniplex site in the town and trading since 2018, shut last week after its parent company was wound up by the High Court.

The barbecue-style diner was operated by Hill Billy Jacks Limited, part of Stephen Hill’s wider Revolutionary Burgers group, which trades under the Dino Diners brand. The group runs a number of similar outlets across Northern Ireland, including locations in Lisburn, Craigavon, Downpatrick, Larne and Dundonald, typically operating alongside, but independently of, Omniplex Cinemas.

At its peak, the group operated around ten venues across the region.

However, several of the group’s subsidiary restaurant companies have faced High Court petitions from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) in recent months, reflecting the wider strain on hospitality businesses amid high inflation and rising operating costs. Recent increases in staff costs have added further pressure to an already challenging trading environment.

Staff at the Omagh Rexy Jacks outlet were called in and informed of the closure, following a High Court decision on January 8 to wind up Hill Billy Jacks Ltd under the Insolvency (Northern Ireland) Order 1989. HMRC had originally submitted its petition on November 12 2025.

The company is now in liquidation and under the remit of the Insolvency Service.

The most recent publicly available accounts for Hill Billy Jacks Ltd show the business had a deficit of just under £753,000 at the end of September 2023 and employed around 30 staff.

The company had previously also operated Hill Billy Fuel, which sold pizza, coffee and gelato from a unit next door to Rexy Jacks in Omagh, before that business closed in February last year.

When approached about the closure yesterday (Tuesday), a spokesperson for HMRC said they could not comment on businesses due to taxpayer confidentiality law.
