THE Consumer Council for Northern Ireland are here to help consumers save money on their energy bills this winter.

Raymond Gormley, Head of Energy Policy at the Consumer Council, says: “We recognise that many households across Northern Ireland are still struggling with high energy prices. To help, there are some simple but effective steps that consumers can take to save money on their energy bills this coming winter:

Switching Electricity supplier or changing tariffs – it takes around five minutes to use the free Consumer Council price comparison tool, which will tell you the cheapest tariff and supplier to suit your needs. Your energy supply won’t get disrupted during the switching process.

l Turn your room thermostat down by one degree and save about 10% on your annual heating bill.

l Use your programmer to put your heating on only when you need it.

l Draught excluders and thermal curtains will help reduce draughts and save money.

l Don’t block your radiators with large furniture.

l Loft and cavity wall Insulation will keep the heat in your home for longer.

l Provide regular meter readings so that your electricity or gas bills are not estimated (E).

l Turn appliances off at the wall.
