BISHOP of Derry and Raphoe, Andrew Forster, visited the Omagh Rural Deanery last Friday for the second of his Lenten fundraising walks for the Diocese of Kondoa, this time a 10-mile route - in three stages - from Omagh to Cappagh and back, and from there on to Edenderry Parish Church.
His day began with assembly in Gibson Primary School, where he and Canon Robert Clark were welcomed by the Principal, Keith Sterritt.
From there, Bishop Andrew and his companions - among them the Rector of Drumragh with Mountfield, Rev Graham Hare - walked along the Old Mountfield and Gortin Roads to Cappagh Church, before returning to Omagh, via the Strathroy Road and the River Walk at Hunters Crescent, to join parishioners for the Lent Lunch at St Columba's Church.
In the afternoon, the group made the journey on foot through the town and out along the Crevenagh Road to Edenderry, where the walk concluded with refreshments in the parish hall.
One of the highlights of the day was a meeting with pupils of Omagh County Primary School who presenter Bishop Andrew with a generous donation for Kondoa.
The Bishop has set himself a fundraising target of £30,000 to support mission and ministry in the Diocese of Kondoa, with which the Diocese of Derry and Raphoe has signed a five-year partnership agreement.
