Omagh Ju Jitsu Club celebrates success and looks to the future

THERE were belts all round and beaming smiles at Omagh Leisure Centre, as students from Omagh Ju Jitsu Club successfully completed their latest grading examination under the watchful eye of one of the country’s top martial arts experts.

National coach David Toney, 9th Dan of WJJF-Ireland, made the trip to Omagh to lead the grading day and ensure that students were ready for their big moment. And they certainly delivered - every single student passed, earning their next belt and earning praise not only from their examiners but from proud parents and impressed spectators alike.

Senior coach Sensei Michal Varga, 4th Dan, closed out the session with warm congratulations. “Well done everyone. You have made the club proud,” he said. “Please keep up the good work!”

With the grading behind them, the club is already looking ahead to the next chapter. Recruitment is now open, and Omagh Ju Jitsu is welcoming new faces to join the journey. The senior class is open year-round, while junior beginners will have a new intake starting in September.

“It’s better for kids to all start at the same time and work together as a team,” said Sensei Michal.

Whether you're looking to build confidence, get fit, learn self-defence, or just try something new, Omagh Ju Jitsu offers a friendly, inclusive environment for people of all ages and backgrounds. For more information, check out the Omagh Ju Jitsu and Self Defence Facebook page or contact Sensei Michal directly via Messenger.

But that’s not all - Omagh Ju Jitsu is also leading the way with important community outreach. Earlier this year, the club ran a highly successful Women’s Self-Defence Workshop at Drumragh Integrated College and followed it up with a six-week course at the leisure centre, both based on the WJJF’s ‘Empower System’ developed by coach Toney after specialist training in Hungary.

Thanks to incredible feedback, the club is gearing up to run these courses again in the autumn, likely around October and November.

Any young girls or women interested in self-defence and empowerment are warmly encouraged to get in touch for more details on upcoming sessions.

Omagh Ju Jitsu is on the move - and there’s never been a better time to get involved.
