SEAN Haigney, an Omagh born GP, who now lives in Carryduff, is celebrating this week after being announced as the winner of the Kingspan Try-Cycle Challenge, an interactive game, which captivated Ulster Rugby fans at the Kingspan Stadium last season.
Over the course of the season nearly 500 fans took part in the challenge that saw participants go head-to-head to pedal stationary bikes and travel as far as possible in 30 seconds. Clinching the top spot with an impressive score, Sean won the opportunity to travel to an away game with the Ulster Rugby squad during this incoming season.
Speaking about the challenge and his prize, Sean said: “Taking part in the Kingspan Try-Cycle Challenge was really good fun! It was a very enjoyable activity and certainly something different for Ulster Rugby fans.
“I never expected to win first place in the challenge, so I am delighted! Interestingly, I am a member of the ‘Duffers,’ a Carryduff based cycling group, so winning the Try-Cycle Challenge will definitely give me bragging rights amongst my cycling friends.
“I always really enjoy coming to the Kingspan Stadium and I can’t wait to cheer on the Ulster men when I travel to the away game. Sincere thanks to Kingspan and Ulster Rugby – I have no doubt I’ll thoroughly enjoy the trip.”
Meanwhile, Thomas Jefferson, Head of Marketing - Energy Management at Kingspan, has confirmed that the Try-Cycle Challenge will return to the Kingspan Stadium next season and says that the game has become a vital part of fan engagement for the company.
“As proud sponsors of Ulster Rugby, we love any opportunity to engage with the fans – which was the main motivation behind setting up the Try-Cycle Challenge,” Tom said. “We want to give back to the fans who so loyally support the Ulster men each and every game night during the rugby season.
“The aim of the challenge is simple – participants pedal stationary bikes to score as many tries as possible in 30 seconds. Given the hundreds of fans who tried the challenge, it’s safe to say it was a resounding success.
“We’re really looking forward to next season where the Try-Cycle Challenge will return once again and where there will be even more great prizes up for grabs.”
