OVER 500 runners and walkers crossed the finish line in early September for Run Fintona Run 2024, making it one of the most successful events yet.
This year’s run was held in loving remembrance of Eric Deazley and Frank O'Flaherty, with heartfelt thanks extended to their family, friends, and colleagues who joined the organisers and participants to honour their memory.
As promised, the 5k route offered the perfect conditions for personal bests, and many participants achieved just that, finishing with impressive times. Online registration exceeded expectations, and the organisers were thrilled to see such enthusiasm - so much so that even their increased order of event t-shirts wasn’t quite enough!
The Fintona community once again demonstrated its unparalleled spirit. Local businesses, families, and individuals came together to support the event, with particular thanks to their main sponsor, McAtee Brothers Property Management, who has been with them since the beginning. They also deeply appreciate Fintona Credit Union for their continued sponsorship of the youth races, along with the 45 other businesses and families who contributed generously.
A special thank you goes to the dedicated stewards and helpers, whose expertise and enthusiasm ensured the day ran smoothly. Your efforts did not go unnoticed and are a vital part of what makes Run Fintona Run a standout event.
Eric and Frank’s families selected Aware NI and NI Chest, Heart & Stroke as this year’s chosen charities.
“We are incredibly proud to have raised £3,000 for each organisation. Our gratitude goes to Margaret from Aware and Laura from NI Chest, Heart & Stroke for representing their charities on the day.
“This year’s run was more than just a race; it was a poignant celebration of community, love, and support for Eric and Frank’s families.
“As the year winds down, we want to wish everyone a peaceful and joyful Christmas. Remember to keep moving - Run Fintona Run 2025 will be here before you know it!
“Thank you once again for being part of such a memorable event. See you next year,” added Run Fintona Run spokesperson, Clodagh Maguire.
