OMAGH Triathlon Club’s (OTC) Lucy McDermott was racing on the Southern Coast of Spain this weekend at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship after qualifying at Ironman 70.3 Marbella last year.

Lucy's day began at 9am on the Levante Beach, where she swam in the Mediterranean Sea, completing the 1,900m in 43mins 31secs.

Moving through transition, she headed out for the single-lap bike course that would take in tough climbs and beautiful scenery around the 90km.

The route leaves from the Puerto Banus beach area and runs parallel to the sea before turning inland and beginning the first of the ascending for the day.

Passing through the village of Ojen meant Lucy was nearing the highest point on the course, before descending towards Monda and Coin.

Here was the turnaround point where Lucy retraced her steps and completed the bike in 3hrs 38mins 35secs.

Racking the bike and donning her runners, Lucy headed out for the half-marathon and the final stint of the day.

Two loops make up the 21.1km and offers the chance to run along the Marbella Promenade and the infamous Golden Mile, before rounding the finish chute and crossing the finish line in 1hr 53mins 49secs. Finish time: 06.27.39.

Closer to home in Westport was the annual adventure race, Sea2Summit where there was a choice of the 'supreme' distance or the 'sprint' distance race.

Both races began at the Westport Plaza and Castlecourt Hotel, where the competitors then run 4km to T1 at Roman Island. Jumping on the bikes, everyone cycled the 8km along the coast to the Croagh Patrick carpark.

Here at T2, the competitors changed the shoes again to prepare for the tough Croagh Patrick climb.

The spirit competitors traversed half of the mountains peak, with the supreme competitors taking on the entire climb to the chapel at the highest point.

Managing the tricky descent back to the carpark, the adventure racers got back on the bikes to head back to Roman Island.

The supreme race took them the long way round - a 35km cycle taking in some serious climbs such as Maum - and the spirit course took those back towards T1 on a slightly flatter 11km route.

Finally for all competitors, a 4km run took them back to the finish line situated in the buzzing town of Westport.

Supreme results for OTC members: Gemma Skeath - 03.52.37, Oran McAleer - 04.33.56, Dessie McAleer - 04.56.44 and Catriona McAleer - 04.56.45.

Spirit results: Clare Maguire - 02.31.54, Grainne McSorley - 02.35.07, Alanna McAleer - 03.10.01 and Sean Gillespie - 03.10.03.

Gemma Skeath finished the day as third female overall.

October marked the return of the Dublin Marathon, where a group of OTC gathered to take part in the 42.2km run.

The start of the 42.2km is in St Stephen's Green, where the runners crossed the Liffey and headed towards Phoenix Park.

A lengthy stint in the scenic park felt like a monsoon with the wind, rain, and chill, but the competitors emerged at Ballyfermot with their sights on Kilmainham and then the Crumlin Road.

The miles ticked down from Walkinstown to Bushy Park to Milltown Golf Club, and then the infamous zombie shuffle on the Stillorgan Road before rounding the Merrion Road to reach the purple carpet and the much-anticipated finish line.
