OMAGH Academy 1st XV faced off against Foyle College at Royal School Dungannon in the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Trophy final on Saturday.
Omagh started well with multiple phases of early pressure following an early yellow card for Foyle.
Omagh opened the scoring with a try from Ryan Mitchell with Sam Harper converting.
The remainder of the first half saw Omagh on the offensive with some resolute Foyle defence holding them out.
At the start of the second half Sam converted a penalty to push the Omagh lead out to 10-0.
Foyle responded with some excellent backline attack to score and bring the game back to within one score.
Omagh showed character to react almost immediately with a well worked try for Joshua Orr in the corner and a conversion from Sam giving them a 12 point leading heading into the final stages.
A resolute Foyle continued to attack and managed a score underneath the posts following multiple phases of possession.
This brought the score to 17-12 with under 10 minutes remaining.
Omagh managed the remaining time well by kicking Foyle into their own half and controlling the late stages which saw them lift the trophy.
The victory saw captain, Harry McIlwaine, lift the trophy in front of a large crowd of travelling supporters.
