Thursday 19 March 2026 18:31

THE Seskinore Forest 5K Run & Walk is back for its fifth anniversary event on Saturday, May 16, with a start time of 11am.

Preparations are well under way for what promises to be another fantastic event in Seskinore Forest.

The popular event, now in its fifth year, is organised by Seskinore Rural Community Group and last year attracted over 800 participants.

All are encouraged to come and enjoy the scenic route on the paths and roads around the forest.

A spokesperson for the Race Committee said: "This is a community event and we encourage everyone of all ages to come along and take part whether running or walking.

"Once again we are delighted that the couch to 5k programme will run in advance of the race and gives everyone the chance to train together in an informal setting within the safety of the forest.

"Also we want to thank all our local businesses who provide sponsorship and all the many volunteers who make this event possible."

Registration is currently open and is available online. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Enter early to avoid disappointment with the first 400 entrants receiving a Seskinore Forest snood.

Participants can collect their race packs from 7pm to 8pm on Friday, May 15 and from 9.30am to 10.30am on the morning of the race.

All participants will receive wooden finishers’ medals.

There will be trophies for first to third places in all VET categories. There are prizes for male/female in Open/Junior and O40/O50/O60/O70 categories.

The Community Group are hosting their couch to 5k training programme in the lead up to the event.

This is aimed at all ages and abilities who would like to train towards the 5k event. Everyone is very welcome.

The training programme will commence on Tuesday, April 7, in Seskinore Forest, meeting at the car park at 7.30pm.

This will last for six weeks with accredited coaches and special guests giving talks.

Further information and entries are available at Seskinore Forest 5k Facebook page or by contacting seskinorercg@gmail.com.

All proceeds will go to the races nominated charities - Care for Cancer and Omagh Spires Special Olympics Team.

Proceeds also go to community projects in Seskinore Forest and the village.

Everyone is very welcome with refreshments being served after the race.
